Getting started
Do I need to be a theology nerd?
No.
Bring curiosity and honesty. Doubts and hard questions are welcome. You do not need the right vocabulary or a settled faith to belong here.
Who is this for?
The School is primarily for young adults, roughly 18–29.
Mature students ages 16–17 may be considered with parent or pastor recommendation. For younger students who participate regularly, our preferred model is that a same-gender adult from their church or family remains connected as a responsible representative.
The normal focus is young adults, but we want to make room for younger Christians who are spiritually mature, hungry, and ready for deeper formation.
Do I need prior Bible knowledge?
No.
We start with foundations and build from there together.
The rhythm
How long is the cohort?
The School is designed as a three-year pathway with open participation.
The first cohort completed three years: one year of foundations and two years in the Sermon on the Mount.
What does a normal gathering look like?
We meet Sunday evenings from 6–9 PM in the Yukon / Oklahoma City area.
The evening begins with about 30 minutes of food and fellowship, then continues with roughly two and a half hours of biblical teaching and discussion woven together. Questions and discussion happen throughout the teaching.
What if I miss a week?
Life happens. Come when you can.
Consistency deepens the experience, but attendance is not policed and nobody is graded. Over time, we plan to post lessons so students can catch up on what they miss.
Does the community continue outside Sunday nights?
Yes.
The cohort also shares a group chat where students can keep asking questions, share prayer requests, encourage one another, discuss theology, and stay connected between gatherings.
Details
Is it really free?
Yes.
The School is free, funded by donors and partners who believe young adults deserve real discipleship without a price tag.
Where does it meet?
The School meets in the Yukon / Oklahoma City area.
Exact location details for the next cohort will go out as plans are finalized.
When does the next cohort begin?
The current target is early 2027.
Is this a church?
No.
GoodLion is a discipleship ministry that strengthens young adults and sends them back into their churches and communities with deeper roots.
Is this accredited?
No.
GoodLion School of Discipleship is a local discipleship ministry focused on biblical teaching, spiritual formation, and community.
Can pastors bring students?
Yes.
That is one of the best ways to participate. We encourage pastors and leaders to come with their students, learn alongside them, and help guide discussion.
What's the long-term vision, is this dependent on funding?
The long-term vision is a sustainable school that forms young adults deeply and sends them back into their local churches, cohort after cohort.
GoodLion is currently pursuing full funding that would make this dedicated work. Right now, Aaron carries the School in a tentmaker season, supporting his family through outside client work while continuing to teach, disciple, and build.
Whether or not funding comes through, the School continues. Funded, it grows faster and Aaron can give more focused time to the work. Unfunded, it stays lean, but it does not stop.
Can our church send someone to help teach or lead?
Yes, and we would love that.
An intern, young leader, or alumni you would trust to grow into co-leading is welcome in the room. Some of our strongest teachers started as students. Reach out and we will talk through what that could look like.
Still curious? Come and see.
Cohort 02 is forming now. No commitment required yet.
